
Ixonos organized an international Linux seminar in Oulu on Tuesday, 16 March 2010, in order to support the global Mobile Linux community. The event theme was centered on Linux and on making business based on open source in a world of fragmented markets. The event gathered 450 registered participants and the feedback for the event has been exceedingly positive; a lot of enthusiasm shown towards the speakers and their topics.  | Bjarne Stroustrup on the trends and future of C++ Bjarne Stroustrup will be discussing the future of C++ and the renewed C++ standard. Bjarne Stroustrup is the designer and original implementer of C++ and the author of “Programming -- Principles and Practice using C++”, "The C++ Programming Language" and “The Design and Evolution of C++”.  | Ignacio Correas on creating Open Source community Ignacio is CEO and founder of eBox Technologies developing and commercializing eBox Platform, the open source alternative to Windows Small Business Server. Ignacio is also an active member of the Spanish open source business community, being an advisor for CENATIC (Spain's National Reference Centre for Open Source) and a member of the board of ASOLIF (Association of Open Source Spanish Businesses), among others. He has previously worked as CEO and co-founder of Warp Networks and as assistant professor at University of Zaragoza. His professional background has evolved from technical fields and management to business development. He is interested in open source development and business models, strategic development, viral marketing, e-learning methodologies and services.

| | | Sebastian Kügler on Qt Programming Sebastian Kügler is Director at KDE e.V. and works as Software Engineer at KDAB and Software Developer at KDE.org. He has also been technical staff at CodeYard and researcher at Radboud University Nijmegen. He is a frequent speaker at international conferences and has written several articles for magazines, mostly related to Free Software and especially KDE.

|  | Sami Paihonen on how to design world class UX on top of embedded Linux Sami Paihonen has for the past 12 years worked in mobile device UE/UI Design first at Nokia and then at Samsung in South Korea. His work experience ranges from strategic planning, research and conceptual development to operational design. In the past few years his role has evolved around design management and “platformization” of user experience. The unique experience gained by working for two biggest mobile manufacturers gives his a full understanding of the dynamics and design in the mobile sector.

|  | Mikko Välimäki on Open Source & licensing
Mikko Välimäki is CEO at Tuxera Ltd, and leads the company’s day-to-day operations. Previously he has lead his own law firm and several software start-up companies, including one that developed a highly-popular graphical user interface for MySQL databases. Mikko has also lectured in numerous universities and published four books on software licensing, copyright, patents and related topics. He has LL.M. from the University of Helsinki and Ph.D from the Helsinki University of Technology.

|  | Esko Wessman on how to Make Business with Open Source Esko's topic handles the various ways of doing business around Open Source – especially best practices from a software provider’s and end-customer’s point of views. Esko Wessman has been involved with Open Source business more than 10 years. Currently he is CEO and founding partner of Nordicmind Ltd, which is a Value Added Distributor in Northern Europe, specialized on IT and Business Continuity with Open Source. Esko is also a founder and honorary member of the Finnish Linux User Group (FLUG ry).

|  | Mika Ylianttila on experiences from cross-platform mobile programming for value added music services
Mika’s topic handles experiences in developing value added music services, also from the end-user point of view. Value added services include navigation and voting in a user community. The work includes prototyping on mobile platforms (Symbian, Linux/Maemo), utilizing peer-to-peer protocols through a Web interface. Users can navigate and search best matching locations based on their music profile. Dr. Mika Ylianttila is the Associate Director of the MediaTeam Oulu research group at the University of Oulu, Finland. He leads technology development projects with innovative goals, closely related to industrial collaboration for enabling novel mobile multimedia services, applications and communication, and links that to the analysis of user experience and business. As an adjunct professor at the Computer Science and Engineering laboratory, Mika teaches courses on information networks service techniques and multimedia systems. He works constantly with new national and international ICT project initiatives, and participates in the Internet standardization efforts (i.e. IETF). (Video not available.  | Alexander 'Sasha' Bezprozvanny on proprietary software development vs. Open Source development Sasha has over 26 years of industrial experience with software development and currently works at Ixonos as Linux Technology Manager. Prior to his current job he held a similar position at Teleca. Sasha has worked for Nokia from 1999 until 2007, including 4,5 years in Nokia’s Maemo unit, where he held a position of Head of Real Time Communications team, which developed Instant Messaging, VoIP, Video Call and messaging and presence frameworks for Nokia Internet Tablets. Sasha made his first contribution to Open Source back in 1991, when he ported NFS daemon from Solaris to Linux.

 | Teppo Kuisma on Linux and Open Source Service Presentations includes an overview of the Oulu Portal case and touches upon possible scenarios, scalability, integration and licenses. Teppo Kuisma is Managing Director of the Ixonos Group’s Business Solutions unit and has worked at Ixonos as Chief Project Officer and Senior Consultant since 2007. His earlier responsibilities included the development of business process models and technology partnerships of the Business Solutions unit. Previously he has also worked as Chief Project Officer at Mermit Business Applications Oy, which was later acquired by Ixonos Plc, and as IT Application Center Manager at UPM.

 | Ville Voutilainen on Maemo for Symbian Developer Ville’s topic discusses the main differences of C++ and Symbian from developer’s point of view. Ville is Chief Software Designer at Ixonos’ Oulu site. He has held the position of Senior Systems Analyst at Ixonos and Vega Technologies Oy, which was acquired by Ixonos. Prior to that, he was Senior Software Engineer at Jutel Oy and Software Engineer at Acta Systems. Ville is the Finnish representative in the C++ Standards Committee, which seeks to develop a new version of the C++ standard.

 | Henrik Uhrenfeldt on Mobile Hardware Henrik’s topic looks at what will be hot in mobile hardware and showcases how Android can be fitted to publicly available OMAP 3 board (beagle board). M.Sc.E.E Henrik Uhrenfeldt is a Chief Software Engineer at Ixonos, situated in Aalborg, Denmark. Henrik is highly experienced in mobile phone development and production. His previous positions include major phone and chipset manufacturers, namely Texas Instruments working as Software Engineer and Siemens Mobile as well as Benq Denmark Aps where he held the position of Device driver developer. His knowledge includes developing and debugging extremely low level software, participating in board-bringup activities and creating mission-critical security software components. He has been an active Linux user, developer and administrator since 1995.
