Ixonos expands Device Creation Centre’s operations to China

Ixonos Device Creation Centre offers end-to-end services for mobile device design and development. Due to the growing demand of these services, Ixonos has expanded the unit’s operations to Beijing, China, to serve the clientele in the Asian market.

Ixonos is a world leader in creating wireless technologies, mobile devices, services and software, with a special focus on providing inspiring user experiences. Ixonos established a next-generation mobile device design unit in Jyväskylä, Finland, in 2009. The centre offers a comprehensive range of device design services spanning from electronics, mechanics and software design to a full range of testing laboratory services.

Ixonos began ramping up the second design unit in Beijing in the autumn of 2010 to answer growing customer demand. “In the past few weeks we have started work on several significant customer projects involving advanced smart phones in our Beijing unit”, says Folkert Wierda, the head of Device Creation Centre.

Ixonos has two established service centres in China, one in Beijing set up in 2008 and the other in Chengdu since 2009. “Expanding the Device Creation Centre to work alongside our Beijing service centre is a natural step to accommodate the growing demand for our device design services. Many major device manufactures are running R&D activities in Asia, and this is also a significant growth market for smartphones”, says Tomi Kyllönen, the head of Ixonos’ APAC Region. “Working close-by we can offer our high-quality smartphone design and development services more efficiently to an Asian clientele comprising leading manufacturers of mobile devices”, he continues.

“Our competitive advantage comes from our capability to deliver full smart phones as production-ready turnkey deliverables and combining European world class wireless engineering heritage with Asian efficiency”, explains Mr Wierda. Ixonos is currently developing mobile devices based on new, powerful chipsets from the world’s leading technology suppliers and on the Android, MeeGo, as well as Symbian operating systems.
